food + skin

your skin is often times a part of the body that reflects how healthy you are on the inside.  just because you have broken out skin doesn't necessarily mean you are sick, but it can mean that your diet, hormones, or something else is off balance.

women's health had a list on their website the other day of foods that help create healthier skin.  now, i have battled with my skin for as long as i can remember, and i have seen so many lists that it's to the point i almost pass them over.  however, i decided that maybe it would be fun to try out their list, just to see what my results were.  here are the foods they posted, along with how they enhance your skin.

almonds: are considered seeds not nuts
contain vitamin E
vitamin E is an antioxidant

carrots: contains vitamin A
vitamin A helps prevent skin cancer
it can also help skin vitality

dark chocolate: (i hate dark chocolate, so i'm dreading this one)
also an antioxidant
reduces red spots
reduces skin roughness

flaxseeds: contains omega 3 fatty acids
anti-inflammatory
sprinkle the seeds in oatmeal or veggies

green tea: anti-inflammatory
can reverse side effects of sun damage
white tea can be used as a substitute

safflower oil: contains omega 6 fatty acides
ultimate moisturizer
allows water to better penetrate the skin

spinach: helps fight cancer
thought to possibly repair and maintain DNA
allows cells to renew themselves
fights/prevents wrinkles in skin

sweet potatoes: vitamin C
produces collagen
helps fight wrinkles

tomatoes: eliminates skin aging radicals caused by ultra violet rays
sun shielding elements

i'm going to try using these mixed in with my diet for a month to see the results! have you all ever tried any of these foods? has it helped!? i'll keep you posted with my results!
